Encounters on The Land explores man’s interaction with diverse cultures and landscapes in Texas. The exhibit includes the stories of pre-Columbian Native Americans and Spanish Conquistadors. The exhibition also features an artifact that survived the ocean: the French ship La Belle. The hull of La Belle was recovered by the Texas Historical Commission in the mid-1990s. The hull is now being preserved at the Marine Archaeology facility at Texas A & M University.
